Amazon Continues to Support Web3-native Games
On January 27th, The Bornless announced they had been accepted into Amazon’s Activate Startup Program. The program helps startups build and scale their businesses by giving them access to solution templates, tools and resources (including AWS cloud storage), as well as expert support.
A couple of days ago, Bullieverse became the second Web3-native game to announce their being part of the program.
It’s interesting to note that the AI/ML tech ambitions of these games is showcased in both announcements, there is no mention of blockchain. Also mentioned in both announcements is guaranteeing security and customer protection for gamers, which comes to no surprise as Amazon is proudly user-centric.
In late January I wrote an article on the similarities between the Flash Player Era and Web3 Gaming, ending it off with the importance of security since that is ultimately what lead to the death of Adobe Flash:
“No matter how ground-breaking a piece of technology is, it is ultimately limited by the integrity of its security. Web3 gaming will need to buckle down on security to survive, which in turn won’t be achieved by cutting corners.

This is actually one of the main reasons why I’m paying close attention to projects working on game tech which lowers security risks for players and games alike.”
New Patent Reveals Sony’s Further Interest in NFTs
This news comes after their announcement last year of the PlayStation Stars program featuring digital collectibles with strong NFT similarities despite their explicit announcement that these would not be NFTs. Then, in November 2022 a Sony patent was made public suggesting PlayStation had been developing blockchain technology.
This most recent patent further reveals their NFT plans – an interconnected system that gives users the ability to rent NFTs.
Check out this article which further details the patent.
