Epic Games Store welcomes First Web3-native Game
The free-to-play title Blankos Block Party, developed by Web3-native Mythical Games, launched on the Epic Games Store. It is the first blockchain game to be approved for sale and available to download on the Fortnite creator’s marketplace. The hope is that this step forward will lead to much wider exposure for the game, and give it the chance to be part of a mass market.
In an interview with Engadget, Mythical Games co-founder Linden said “Blankos is obviously the proving ground. We control all the levers in Blankos, which is great, so we can do a lot of testing and really see what’s hitting with the community. The idea behind that is to tune it so that other games can use the same concepts.”
YouTube embraces the Creator Economy, Twitch not so much
Whilst YouTube continues to empower creators by offering new monetisation opportunities, Twitch is making changes to the subscription revenue share split, primarily affecting the top 10% of streamers.
Yesterday, YouTube published a blog post written by Amjad Hanif, VP of Creator Products:
“Today, we introduce the next chapter in rewarding creativity on our platform, no matter what that looks like. We’re announcing more ways for creators to become partners, new ways to make money with Shorts, and a reimagining of how the music industry and creators work together.”

Twitch also made an announcement addressed to creators, albeit of a very different tone. In a letter posted to their blog, Twitch President Dan Clancy explained the change in the split of subscription revenue shares between the platform and its biggest creators.
This change will go into effect after June 1, 2023.
“For subscriptions, we use a baseline revenue share of 50/50 on the net revenue from those earnings. The vast majority of Twitch streamers have these terms in their agreement. However, for some time we did offer standard agreements with premium subscription terms to select streamers as they grew larger.
For these streamers still on these premium deals, we’re adjusting the deal so that they retain their 70/30 revenue share split for the first $100K earned through subscription revenue. Revenue above $100K will be split at the standard 50/50 share split.”
Interestingly, despite having lost popular streamers like Ludwig, Myth and LilyPichu to exclusive deals with YouTube, today Twitch is still the platform where more people watch livestreams, especially for gaming..
